* From Monday thru Friday I go to the cantina (cafeteria)
at the Slovakian Evangelical church for lunch. The food is
good and the kitchen is run for the poor. It cooks for about
50 people a day.
The people who have the ability to pay … pay. I am one
of the paying customers.
The cafeteria functions with the financial help of an elderly
man from the United States. He works in conjunction with
an Evangelical church in Slovakia. I believe that his
contributions support about 10 or so other cafeterias for
poor people.
In the first picture you can see the friendly staff ... they
are the best.

The second picture gives you a view of the food preparation
action.

The last picture is that of some of the clients. These ladies
actually live in what could be considered ‘assisted living’
in a building on the church grounds. If you look in the back
you can see my buddy ‘Michel’. In front of him on the left
side of the table is where I sit daily. Yup that is my place in
the cafeteria.

The cafeteria is really a great help for some poor families in
the community. In fact it was told to me that in a few cases
it is the only decent meal that the kids in those families receive
for that day.
When I see or hear of the situations where people are struggling
to put food on the table it just boggles my mind that others
get millions because they sang one song or that ballplayers get
millions of dollars to hit or kick a ball. I guess entertainment is
a higher priority than food. I know that that level of poverty is
a result of many things and it does get complicated. I guess that
old idealist thing comes in my head that says it would be nice
if all people had at least food.
I think that all I am saying … as a species, let’s get back on track.
